Custom Buttons Extension for VTiger improves efficiency when updating records. Buttons can be configured to show modal popup with selected fields. For example, you can add a button to “Update Address” which will only show address fields when clicked. This is very primitive example; however, it can be used for so much more. You can read more about the extension’s features and the see the implementation (recommended to understand new functionality).
The extension, now, is capable of updating a picklist field with a single click. For example, in your sales system, if the inevitable outcomes for Opportunities are limited i.e. “Closed Won, Lost” etc., you can do that with a single click. This can be done in addition to the standard functionality.
The new settings added are “Silent Field Update”. The first picklist in “Silent Field Update” shows all the picklists from the select module. The second picklist gives the values from the picklist selected in the first one.
Now, the extension works three ways. Those ways are configurable in the settings using the two fields; “Fields on Popup” and “Silent Field Update”:
This is how the extension formerly worked. Previously, the fields selected in the configuration > “Field on Popup” are displayed in the modal popup, when the corresponding button is clicked in summary or detail view. Users could update those fields, click save, and the field values were updated instantly. The configuration panel helps setting up certain conditions to show up the button only if those specifications are met.
This is still available; leave the “Silent Field Update” values blank to achieve this.
This feature helps updating select field to a certain value with one click. You can achieve this by setting up the field and value under “Silent Field Update” and leave “Fields on Popup” blank. For example, if you repeatedly have to update a ticket to a certain stage to assign it to support team, setup the picklist and the value in “Silent Field Update” and specify the conditions for the button to show up (optional). Users will be able to assign it back to support team by simply clicking the button. If the modal popup is not to be displayed, it quickly updates the field value with just a click.
If the admin configures fields in “Fields on Popup” as well as “Silent Field Update”, both actions can be run at the same time. By clicking this one button, it will show the modal popup (see #1) as well as run the automation (see #2).
